Caroline MAGNIER: New signal processing algorithms for passive acoustic monitoring of marine environments (Nouveaux algorithmes de traitement de l’information pour la surveillance des environnements marins par acoustique sous-marine). C. Magnier particularly works on automatic detection of different vessel noises, image processing for marine traffic maps, anthropogenic noise budgets in coastal environments and potential effect on marine fauna.

Elena DESIDERA’: Her research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of Tavolara MPA in protecting dusky groupers’ spawning aggregations. The MPA efficacy evaluation will be based on the comparison between protected vs non-protected spawning grounds. She combines different types of methods including historical data, fishermen interviews, ethology, underwater census, and passive acoustics. Her thesis is conducted and funded by the Marine Protected Area Tavolara-Punta Coda Cavallo (Sadinia, Italy).
